Amoy Ribas

Amoy Ribas was born in Brasília and from a young age had a good musical ear and rhythmic aptitude. Along with his parents, he enjoyed music from around the world - jazz, Indian music (tabla), Arabic music (derbak), Brazilian folkloric music, choro, samba, baião, maracatu, frevo, as well as rhythms from the south of Brazil. He has lived in India and Germany. He started on drumset, but soon after was specializing in percussion, receiving praise from Hermeto Pascoal, as well being invited to perform and record on the CD Mundo Verde Esperança. He has also performed on several occasions at the Clube de Choro in Brasília with Ginga, Paulo Sergio Santos and Arismar do Espírito Santo.

Amoy moved to Rio de Janeiro where he began to teach at the Escola de Música Maracatu Brasil. He's a member of Tia Ciata (with Leandro Braga) and Orquestra Onze Cabeças, with whom he has accompanied Leila Pinheiro and Paulinho Moska. He has recorded with João Donato, Leandro Braga, Marco Pereira, J. T. Meirelles, Rogério Caetano, Caio Marcio and Thiago do Espírito Santo. He performed in Germany with the WDR Orchestra in Colonge, with the singer Joyce and pianist/arranger Gilson Peranzzetta.

He has been to Los Angeles with Grupo Brazilian Modern Choro Ensemble (with Hamilton de Hollanda). He participated at the Festival Del Caribe in Cuba, the La Paz FestiJazz in Bolívia and Jazzrally and Traumzeit in Germany. He has also performed in Puerto Rico.
