Started his musical career in 1976 when he joined the group "Coisas Nossas", giving him the opportunity to work next to artists such as Moreira da Silva, Eduardo Dusek, Aracy de Almeida, Braguinha and Miúcha among others, in addition to recording three Lps. In 1980 he joined "Camerata Carioca", alongside Joel Nascimento, an innovative group in instrumental Brazilian music, under the leadership of Radamés Gnattali. Between 1980 and 1985 they performed and toured with artists such as Elizeth Cardoso, Nara Leão and Maria Lúcia Godóy. Beto recorded two LPs with "Camerata Carioca": Vivaldi & Pixinguinha (1980) and Tocar (1983).
In 1985 Beto toured internationally for the first time, traveling to Japan with Nara Leão and Roberto Menescal. In 1987 he returned to Japan with Elizeth Cardoso, the Zimbo Trio and Choro Carioca.
In 1988 Beto toured in the United States with "Joel Nascimento and the Brazilian Sextet". The same year he joined the group "Nó em Pingo D'Água" and the "Orquestra de Cordas Brasileiras", both groups winners of the prestigous Prêmio Sharp de Música for Best Instrumental Group in Brazil. With "Nó", he toured across Europe as well as performing in New York City.
In 1992 he created the percussion group "Baticun", which alongside the German horn group "Fun Horns" performed in Rio de Janeiro and extensively across Europe in 1993 - 94 with Beto as producer. The group also recorded their first CD with the Fun Horns during their first tour together, which was released in 1994. The same year, Baticun performed in Brazil alongside artists such as Lenine e Suzano, Paulo Moura, Wilson Moreira, Délia Fischer e Edgard Duvivier.
In 1995 Beto participated on the recording of composer Moacyr Luz' CD, as producer and percussion arranger. This same year he toured with Wagner Tiso and the Orquestra de Câmera de Curitiba as a featured guest. In 1996 he also worked alongside artists such as Victor Biglione, Elton Medeiros, Zé Renato, Mariana de Moraes and Fátima Guedes.
In addition to all of the above, in the years following, up until the present Beto has performed around the world and recorded with artists such as: Caetano Veloso, Martinho da Vila, Chico Buarque, Paulinho da Viola, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia, Elba Ramalho, Nadinho da Ilha, Marco Pereira, Trio Madeira Brasil, Rabo de Lagartixa, Olívia Bington, Zé Paulo Becker and Henrique Cazes (with whom he has recorded the CDs Beatles `n Choro volumes 1 - 4).
