Players

There are many people who play pandeiro in Brasil, but not as many panderistas (pandeiro players). It's relatively easy to speak about the very well-known professional players as there aren't that many of them. But one must keep in mind that because the pandeiro is so common in Brasil, coupled with the fact that it's small and relatively inexpensive, there are many people who play it. On several occasions I've stumbled across some kid from the favelas playing partido alto like crazy with an unbelievable groove.

So, this list is by no means going to be complete ... that's impossible. It will, however, include both old and young, famous and unknown. Traditional and modern, skin and nylon head players. For the most part it will feature carioca (someone from Rio de Janeiro) players as that's where I live and what I'm exposed to. Luckily, Rio is without a doubt the pandeiro capital of the world!

The order is alphabetical, to avoid having to prioritize!

Coming soon:

  • Bira Presidente
  • Paulinho da Aba

A couple of very important pandeiristas no longer with us (biographies coming soon):

  • João da Baiana
  • Jackson do Pandeiro
